Star-delta starters are used in order to reduce the starting current according to legislation and avoid huge voltage drops on the mains.

A star-delta starter consists basically of three contactors, some auxiliary contacts, a mechanical interlock and a star-delta timer with built-in pause between switching from star to delta run.

In order to keep a minimum and flexible stock the thermal overload relay must be ordered separately and related to the actual full load current of motor.
